Baselight now at Final Post

Uncompromising, world-class colour craft. HDR-ready, remotely graded in real time by true artists, wherever your production takes you.

Beyond the Theatre:
Final Post’s Colour Suite Just Levelled Up

For years we were spoilt. Colour grading lived in one place: a 100sqm darkened theatre, a handful of people in the room, a big 20′ screen, a stunning calibrated Christie projector, and cinematic sound to match. It worked, but it also meant the work only happened when everyone could be in the same city, on the same day, in the same room.

We’ve just changed that.

Final Post’s colour suite has been upgraded to Baselight 6.0 from FilmLight, running on a full Blackboard 2 control surface and paired with a Flanders Scientific XMP551 — a 55″ HDR mastering display built for exactly the kind of precision, high-dynamic-range work modern productions demand. We’re fully HDR ready, working with one of the finest finishing toolsets available anywhere in the world.

ps. we still have the theatre 😉

Why Baselight

Ask any working colourist why Baselight commands the respect it does, and you won’t hear a list of specs you’ll hear about what it lets them feel their way toward. Baselight’s layer-based architecture means a grade can stay endlessly flexible without ever becoming a tangled mess to unpick. Tools like X Grade let us make complex, localised corrections in a single move, without the traditional grind of building keys and mattes so more of the session is spent making creative decisions, and less of it spent on technical setup.

Chromogen opens up look development that goes beyond simple LUTs, letting a film develop its own visual signature rather than borrowing someone else’s. And Face Track, one of Baselight’s newer tools, means correcting a performer’s skin tone across a scene is no longer a frame-by-frame grind.

This is why Baselight remains the tool of choice on the kind of high-end drama, feature, and premium commercial work where the image has to hold up on the biggest screen in the room. It’s built for artists who won’t compromise which is exactly the standard we hold ourselves to.

From the Theatre to Anywhere

The traditional grading theatre isn’t going away there’s still nothing quite like sitting in a calibrated room with surround sound and a director beside you, watching a film come together in real time. But that model has always had a limitation: it required everyone to be in the room.

With FilmLight’s REMOTE grading technology, now built into Baselight 6.0, that’s no longer the only option. Directors and DPs can review an accurate, low-latency grade from a Mac wherever they are in the world on set, between flights, or simply at home without losing the colour integrity the work depends on.

Combined with access to a global network of colour artists, it means the right eyes can be on a project regardless of geography, and a session doesn’t have to wait for a flight to land.

What This Means For Your Project

Whether you’re finishing a feature, a documentary, or a commercial campaign, this upgrade means Final Post can offer the full weight of a world-class finishing tool with the flexibility to work the way modern productions actually move — fast, distributed, and no less demanding on quality.

If you’re planning your next finish and want to talk through what your project needs — whether that’s a full day in the theatre or a remote session from wherever you’re shooting — we’d love to hear about it.
